A flowering shrub that flowers/blossoms around the early april mark?

Looking for a flowering shrub that will flower around the early april mark each year. Im in southern Vic (melb). Not too large, something to go over my dogs grave as he just passed.

Forsythia blooms early but will probably get to big unless there is a dwarf variety, I am not sure.

I found two different plants native to your area that bloom in April. The one I found the most interesting is called a Flannel Flower, Actintus helianthii. It is very pretty. There are different varietys from what I understand but they have them by the university there. Another plant that looks to be a flowering shrub, blooms in April too, it is called Acacia Iteaphylla.

I am real sorry to hear of the loss of your dog, that is never easy.
Reply:I am sorry for you loss.

We also plant trees and shrubs in memory of our loved ones (pets and humans).

For spring blooming I have used flowering almonds, forsythia, azaleas and early blooming spireas. Another option is to plant a shrub with vibrant spring leaf colour such as barberry, goldflame spirea, etc.
Reply:Camelia bush or its spelled Chamelia.

Rhodendrum.

Azalea.
Reply:Lilacs and snowballs are beautiful flowering shrubs that require little care once they are established. All you have to do is prune them once a year, after they are done flowering.
