What tree/shrub would look good behind a row of 10 blue spruce pine trees in our backyard which is by a road?

Our backyard is next to a road which is busy. I was wondering what tree or shrub would be good to place behind the pine trees. Storms come in from our backyard so whatever it is they have to be strong.

I used "Flame Willow" Salix alba 'Flame', to accent my blue spruce. They get 15-20ft. and have light green-yellow leaves and the brightest red-orange-yellow twigs and branches in winter. They really do look on fire and are awesome with the blue. RScott
Reply:Pine trees are good enough, but you need keep them under 12 ft. if used for protection. To high are easily waved and lose grip on roots, during high wind or storm time. The best I have seen withstanding high winds is bamboo. By the way bamboo is a gigant weed.
Reply:Try the tall bourganvella, (sorry I can't spell it) They also offer privacy but they're tall in 20 years.
Reply:I'd look into a flowering dogwood with the red stems-it'd make a nice contrast with the blue spruce- in the winter it would have quite the WOW effect. I have seen burning bushes and lilacs used too. All should be good choices for your conditions.
