What is the best product to stop a shrub re-growing??

I have cut down a couple of my young trees and shrubs but do not want them to re-grow from the stumps - I live in the uk - what is the best way to stop this happening? Is there a product on the market??

What is the best product to stop a shrub re-growing??
yes root killer
Reply:Two cheap things. If you like the stump's locations, then carve/bore out a large hole/bowl in the center of it and plant some flower inside for a few years and watch it slowly rot away with watering and transplanting each year.

If this is not an option, buy a big bag of cheap rock salt, do the same thing as above, and instead of flowers, just pour in the salt, and add as needed.

Both are old fashioned/eco-friendly ways of taking care of this problem. . . personally, I like the flowers the best :)

Hope this help. . . great question!!!
Reply:Roundup isn't powerful enough for solid wood.A stump killer is effective,it easily available from diy outlets. The crystals have to be applied immeadiately after the fresh cut.

Any regrowth comes from just inside the bark,so alternatively chop off all the surrounding bark, and then criss cross with saw/knife on the stump itself.

Or make fresh cut and pour petrol on (not good for soil though)
Reply:You need to make some slices in the top of the stumps, with a saw, then paint creosote all over the top, this will soak into the stump and stop it from growing, we did it last year, and its dead, just make sure you don't get it on anything else surrounding it, good luck.
Reply:Roundup is an extremely strong pesticide. (yes it's called pesticide even when used on plants).

It can get into the environment and groundwater. Not a good choice. The planter idea is a good one, or digging it out.
Reply:SBK brushwood killer, or DAX root out, 100% effective, or I've heard driving copper nails in to a stump will gradually kill it eco friendly style.
Reply:The RHS recommend SBK Brushwood Killer.
Reply:Roundup
Reply:I would try an dig it out by the roots.
Reply:a spade dig the bugger up
