What bush/shrub is this?

It doesn't grow very tall, maybe about 4 feet max. Leaves are deep red/burgundy, don't believe it flowers. I realize it could be many things, but names would be helpful, as I'm looking to plant something in my yard. Haven't gone to a nursery yet..just getting some ideas.

What bush/shrub is this?
There are a few barberries that are red like that, but they lose their leaves in the winter, and there is also a dwarf loropetalum, that will lose some of its leaves in the winter, but not all of them and it blooms hot pink blooms in early spring.
Reply:i hope it isn't poison ivy
Reply:I have red barberries, but they are thorny and more compact. They don't sway in the breeze. I also have purple leafed sand cherries, and they're not purple, they're a deep red or burgandy. I love them.... very leafy and rich reds.... and they sway in the breeze. In the spring they get tiny pink flowers on them. I think the wood must taste good though, I have had problems with rabbits chewing on them. I started putting blood meal around them in the spring and it solved that problem. (you can get blood meal at any garden center) They will grow to 6ft or so though after quite a few years. I have one thats 7 years old and it's about 6 ft this year. You can prune them to stay at 4 feet though. It's a beautiful plant, one of my favorites.
Reply:Going by your description it could be a flowering plum......no fruit. Some are small trees and some are shrubs.
Reply:Could be a dwarf burning bush, but those aren't red-leaved until fall. Are you saying the leaves are red yearround? Does it drop its leaves? What part of the globe are you? :) Any possibility of a picture of this shrub?
