What type of shrub provides a sound barrier and heighth but whose roots will not invade a nearby septic bed?

I dont know what zone you live in, but any of the variety of cedars would work well for that. They dont like being too wet, so they wont seek out the moisture near the septic.

Cedars, or any dense conifers, work well in rows, so they provide a good sound barrier.

Go to your local garden center and see what plants would work well in your zone, and go from there.
