The herb that you are looking for is called rue in English but it is not usually growing any where unless you plant it or at least where I live.

Reply:Gorse, a moorland shrub with beautiful yellow flowers.
Reply:I would say, Gorse. A common moorland plant that is trouble free to grow.
Reply:Gooseberry which was grown in my grandparents garden. The small green round fruit when ripe was delicious to eat, but watch out for the thorns.

How to care for peonies shrub, what to use if there are pest on the shrub?

Peonies prefer full sun, but can tolerate some shade in the south. Too much shade will prevent blooms. They need a well drained , fertile, acidic or neutral soil amended with plenty of organic compost. When planting peonies, keep them away from competing tree and shrub roots. Always plant peonies in fall. Plant the roots with pink buds (eyes) exactly 1-2 inches below ground. Peonies will not bloom if planted too low. Peonies require plenty of moisture during early spring growth and not too much fertilizer. Over fertilization results in reduced bloom. Use hoop-type supports to keep stems from flopping.

Ants are not a problem to peonies. Pest control should be specific to the pest. A common fungal disease of peonies is botrytis (gray mold), especially in warm rainy weather. Plant where good air circulation and use copper fungicides if needed. After hard frosts, cut back to ground and burn or discard cut foliage to eliminate overwintering fungal spores.

Peonies don't require anything other than watering. They just do what they do. And when the blooms are done you can just mow it down and it comes back bigger and better next year.
Reply:Peonies require very little care - the flowers attract ants, which actually work to open up the blooms. If you want to have cut flowers for the house, cut them in the early morning before the sugary sap gets warms %26amp; starts to attract ants.

I do not cut the greenery down aftwer the flowers are gone - I remve all the dead flowers %26amp; then just leave the greenery - I think it looks good in the garden. In the fall, or perhaps not until spring, I remo.ve all the dead stalks

What shrub/hedge plant should I grow in my yard (California)?

I need it to grow fast, tall (6 ft), dense from ground up, ok to prune; and my parents also prefer a hardy plant, moderate water needs, wide (3-5 ft) and evergreen. I've done some research, but can't find one that fits most of the criteria. Please help. Thanks.

What shrub/hedge plant should I grow in my yard (California)?
Here are a few evergreen ones (some are fragrant and/or have pretty flowers):

*Choisya ternata

*Carpenteria californica

*Grevillea

*Hebe

*Loropetalum

Have fun hunting for the perfect plant!

I want to use stones for a shrub bed. Where do I get them, and what is the approx. cost?

I am leaning toward natural mixed rocks for the bed. . .pebble size. Basically I want these to take the place of the wood chips surrounding the shrubs in the front of the house. I know you can get these by the bag at a garden store, but I'm looking at a 600 sq foot area and decent coverage (covers the underlying weed "plastic"). Are there companies that deliver this by the truck? Any rough idea of the cost for such a project?

In 2 hours I am driving to a rock retail store in New Paris, IN to get a truck load of these myself! Try a gravel pit. If you are buying in bulk stay away from the Lowes, Walmart, Home depots unless you have an arm and leg to sacrifice. I too am landscaping with rock and know where to find it. If you don’t have a rock retail outlet near you try also try a garden center. Some garden centers do sell this material in bulk. My experience though says the garden centers are also high priced so I mostly buy at the local gravel pit. They sell all kinds of rock from pea gravel to the next size higher (called eights) to the next size higher to boulders or larger. They also sell sand and dirt and all kinds of rock at wholesale price. They charge by the ton and you either have a truck to shovel it into or a container to put it in. They also deliver. I am guessing cost per ton should be from $30 to $75 depending on what you want not including delivery.

I also use landscaping FABRIC under my rock, bought at Sams Club in 4’ x 100’ rolls for $30. Plastic will deteriorate and hold water quicker than professional lands fabric.
Reply:I would check for companies that sell dirt, mulch, and stone by the bulk (truck load). They will be cheaper then landscape companies and nursery's. Don't use plastics to block weeds as an under lament, because you will have standing water. Then to solve that you would have to punch some holes in the plastic for drainage, then that will give you a weed problem. I have found that weed block cloth applied in a couple of layers is OK, but in time the weeds will come through that too. I have used old carpet as a weed control and it works great. It allows water to penetrate and the weeds will not come through.
Reply:Here in Central, FL,,, USA,,,Lowes sells 3 cu. ft bags all sizes, river rock, for under $4 a bag. I imagine HD does as well.

I just did my ex wifes entire back yard in river rock and pavers

Bulk certainly is cheaper, and delivered. Yellow pages under pavers, landscapers, rock, etc etc
Reply:You can buy them at a home improvement store like Home Depot. If you're getting a lot, they will deliver.

Also, a landscaping company would have access to large quantities.
Reply:Any landscaping company that sells trees and black dirt. look in the phone book.
Reply:Call a few nursery's out of the yellow pages and get quotes. I know most of them will drop truckloads by the yard in your driveway, but if you have a truck you can go get it yourself and it's a little cheaper. I'm not sure about rocks but I know it costs me around $40 for a truckload of topsoil ( i picked up myself ) and about $30 for a load of bark. Have fun I love yard projects

Panicle hydrangea or hibiscus maybe.

Try looking here and see if you can identify it:

What shrub has a pink cone shaped flower?
That would be a pink butterfly bush.

They also come in a bluish purple color and white. As the name suggests they are great for attracting butterflies. I have one in my back yard. They get about 6' tall and about 6' in diameter.

You can find them at most garden centers Lowe's and Menard's usually carry them. I know Lowe's does.
Reply:It would help to see a pic...maybe an oakleaf hydrangea?
Reply:Probably some variety of Red Horsechestnut ( Aesculus x carnea) or Red Buckeye ( A. pavia) The most widely planted one, %26amp; likely what you saw, is A. x carnea ' Briotii'. Unfortunately only blooms for about a week . Wish it was longer , as it can be spectacular .

This it? Noticed some variation in color while looking for pics . Might be lighter in shade, or some different variants masquerading as 'Briotii' circulating in the trade . (???) Have only seen it in full sun. Looks like this pic: http://www.vivaibreda.it/cultivated-plan...

Buttterfly bush (Buddleia) probably wouldn't be in bloom yet . Here's a pic of the plant (sorry- b%26amp;w) http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=7022%26amp;ren...
