one last question, before i get out my spade and make use of all the good answers i have had today; i am looking for a shrub to plant by my side gate, it has small leaves, small yellow planys/buds and realy shrp throne? cont reme,ber its name and have'nt seen one localy.. any one got any ideas?

Sounds like a pyrocantha, and you can find tem on the RHS plantfinder site.
