Hi, I live in northern Nevada and several years ago an new shrub or tree started growing in a bed. I have forgotten if it started out as a tree and hacking it down produced many branches.
It will easily grow 5' tall in a season. I cut it back in the spring.
A couple pictures here:

The plant survives to subzero temperatures and the leaves never change color in the fall. They are green until the first frost, whereby they drop off.
It gets more water than what would be normal because it is in a regularly watered bed.
Hot afternoon winds do not affect the leaves - they do not brown or scorch. This is a hardy bush / tree.
There are 7 lobes if you count the 2 smallest ones at the base of the leaf. The center lobe is quite long compared to the others when the leaf is small and then it sort of equalizes out as the leaf matures.
The stems come up green and they are woody.
Thanks, Dan
