Hello -
Photina sp. are very easy to propogate from cuttings. Do not use very flesh parts of the hedge (such as the red growth) nor do you wish to use very woody parts - such as un-leafed stems, etc. Cut along the leaf nodes of semi-woody growth (as I mention above). I would use rooting hormone and Photina responds very well to this. Use a clean (as in sterile) potting soil - best, if you can find a seed mixture at a nursery (or, use peat/perlite = 50/50) and keep moist. Place the small pot into a large ziplock bag and wait - keep warm and best on top of a heat mat; but, this is not 100% necessary.
It should be very easy and there are no hard tricks to follow here. The best advice is to use semi-hardwoods and to cut along where a leaf (was). You can also cut the remaining leaves in half to avoid the stem loosing too much moisture. Hormone is very recommended and available online or at a nursery/hardware shop.
The shrub "red tip photinia how to propagate?
Make your life easy and join wwwdavesgardens.com where you can post your question on propagation forum....the man who answered is correct but hard for a beginner to understand the terms....pay your 25.00 and join.....when I can't get something like photinia to be successful in peat/perlite, I just stick them in water with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide and a couple of drops of Schult house plant liquid fertilizer and it always works....takes longer but no diseases for me!!
