Annoying neighbours. What is the best shrub / hedge to plant between my side yard and my neighbours yard?

New ppl have moved in beside me and their drive way is right along my property line. They literally only have less than a couple feet of grass before my property line and they are constantly driving up on the grass, ruining it.

Even though it technically is their property, I wish to have it divided so it doesn't look so terrible from the street.

What is the best type of shrub /hedge that doesn't need lots of care and doesn't get too big. Or is having a fence a better route? What should I do?

Ever hear the old saying. "fences make good neighbors"? I would put up a fence and it just comes down to your taste and what you want to accomplish with the fence. (Of course, you could always scatter a couple of handful of nails or screws on their side and I bet they quit parking there).
Reply:emerald green arborvitaes.

easy to take care of. Grow very tall (15+). can plant real close together, now, or a little spaced and they fill in. Cheap.

good for most climates (maybe not southwest)

I made a row of 20 of them placed 3' from each other. 2 yrs later, they are 6+ tall, thick and green, and I cant see the road behind them.

(oh, sorry. . didnt see you could use the fence. Build a privacy fence. thats the easiest and best looking)
Reply:A privacy fence is faster if you can use a post hole digger. But, just in case they have new shrub's that grow straight up to make a barrier. Check Michigan Bulb.
Reply:Wood fence with vinery looks awsome!Till then, put up one of those driveway markers,or several and run wire with markers on it.If they run over that, its property damage.
Reply:either do a fence or plant a hedge of boxwoods
Reply:Concrete posts divided by thorn bushes.
Reply:upright arbor vitae, like "Smargard"
Reply:If you don't mind annuals , (%26amp; you DO like waaayyyy cool plants , I LOVE that thing ) %26amp; want to make a statement(about your neighbors) , try Solanum atropurpureum ("Purple Devil", "Mother-in-Law Plant , "THAT ...Thing" ,etc) Grows as easily as tomatos, to which it is related . So bad it's good ! ;D;D;D

Here's a picture , http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/GardenG... but doesn't do it justice . Leaves are shaped like White Oak , glossy %26amp; dark Holly-Green, washed with purple . Flowers are like tomato flowers, but larger , prettier %26amp; showier . The stems %26amp; thorns are Eggplant-Purple %26amp; make good background for the flowers %26amp; fruit. Oh , the fruit? Start off like 2-tone green, cherry tomatos. Then they turn bright orange (Aug. - on) , looking like clusters of little pumpkins .Grows to about 7' , %26amp; dense (no see-through). Save seeds for next year , %26amp; you'll always have it . Come up %26lt; a week %26amp; grow very fast . Try it, you'll like it .

ps. While the thorns look very nasty , %26amp; can prick , they are quite flexible , so no need to worry about injury. I've even grabbed right hold of the stem, in the afternoon, when plant was a bit dry ( %26amp; a little limp) , with no ill effect .
Reply:Thorn bushes...it'll screw up their paint if they run into it! HA!

I'd go with a nice sturdy iron fence....
