Do you have a tall plant/shrub/small tree suggestion for a Chicago shady spot?

I need a showy but relatively hardy plant or vine on tower or shrub or small tree for under the dining room window. The window faces a side garden with 4-story buildings on either side, so it's not very sunny, but does get some sun. The window is up on the second level, so it would need to be a taller plant. I'd like something that looks nice but will survive (thrive?) Chicago weather.

Thanks for your suggestions!

azaleas?
Reply:If you have acid soil perhaps camellias, rhododendrons, or azaleas.

Check the BBC Gardeing or Better homes and Gardens sites and use their plant selectors. You just put in the environment and what you would like and they give you details and pictures of suitable sites. Well worth a look!
